Untuk pertama kalinya Xiaomi meluncurkan produk smartphone di luar negara asalnya di China, peluncuran itu yang berlokasikan , dalam sebuah program di New Delhi, India. dengan produk gres yang diberi nama Xiaomi Mi 4i yang menjanjikan versi warna-warni , Spesifikasi , dan Fitur High-End yang lebih mumpuni .

Ponsel, yang disebut sebagai smartphone andalannya ini, dilengkapi dengan hardware premium termasuk dari segi display dan prosesor yang berpengaruh tetapi akan dijual dengan harga yang cukup miring Rs 12.999 ($205) yang akan dijual mulai pada Tanggal 30 April 2015 di India.

Kepala Xiaomi Hugo BarraSebagai Head of Global Expansion, Mengatakan pada konferensi pers di New Delhi : bahwa Mi 4i 12% lebih tipis dan 13% lebih ringan dari Generasi sebelumnya yaitu Mi 4 .

Kalau membandingkannya dengan iPhone 6, Xiaomi Mi4i mempunyai sepsifikasi yang hampir sama, tetapi mempunyai fitur layar yang 10% lebih besar.

Dengan ketipisan 7.8mm dan berat 130g ponsel Mi4i akan menjadi langsing dan ringan, berkat Polikarbonat Unibody Shell, pilihan desain yang sebelumnya telah dipakai secara luas oleh aneka macam Produk Lumia di Windows Phone. Ponsel ini juga halus alasannya ialah di sepanjang sisi ponsel dilapis dengan lapisan Anti-Grease Coating (anti-lemak) untuk mencegah mengumpulkan noda dan bekas sidik jari.

Ponsel ini akan hadir dengan MIUI 6 ,sistem operasi perusahaan yang dibangun di berbasis Android, serta dilengkapi dengan fitur perhiasan IVR Visual (Interactive Voice Response) yang merupakan sistem navigasi penjawab telepon yang kompleks.

Ponsel ini cukup berpengaruh untuk menahan benturan , contohnya dijatuhkan dari ketinggian yang signifikan dan akan menawarkan pertolongan yang sama menyerupai Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Dari segi Layar juga mempunyai fitur gres yang disebut Sunlight Display yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk melihat layar di bawah sinar matahari serta menciptakan 30% cahaya lebih efisien.

HugoBarra juga memamerkan fitur dari kamera depan (HDR) dan belakang. Diantara fiturnya ialah : Anti-aging pada photo selfie yang otomatis akan menghilangkan kerutan diwajah.

Ponsel ini ada lima pilihan warna (hitam, putih, oranye, biru muda dan merah muda) yang memalsukan pilihan dari warna yang tersedia pada Mi Pad tablet.
