Complement Probability

The complement of an event is data that is not the incident, so the complement of the probability is an probability that does not come from the event.

P(Ac) = Complement probability of A
P(A) = Probability of A

Example of The Complement Probability

In a box there is a ball that is numbered 1 to 10. If taken a ball, what is the probability of emergence is not prime number ??

Resolution:
S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10} 
n(S) = 10

For example the emergence of prime number is A, so:
A = {2, 3, 5, 7}
n(A) = 4

Because we will look for probabilities that appear not prime numbers, so we must use the complement formula an incident:
P(Ac) = 1 - P(A) 
P(Ac) = 1 - 0.4 
P(Ac) = 0.6
So the probability of the emergence of the ball is not the prime number is 0.6.
